Winter Anime 2011 Preview

1 01 2011

Woohooo, here’s a visual list of all the new anime coming out in the Winter of 2011. Click to see it in full!

Okay! So, let’s get on with the ones that I’m going to be covering.

The heroine, Tsukiko, enrolled to a school that was recently changed from all-boys school to co-ed. Since the area where the school is conveniently rural and the rather exclusive curriculums the school has, up until now the heroine is the only one female who enrolled to the school.

In Starry Sky, the 12 constellations of the Zodiac are personified into handsome young men. The anime will be directed by Kiyomo Sayaka who worked with Vampire Knight. Similar to Hetalia – Axis Powers, Starry Sky’s anime will be distributed through the website and other means. [From MaL]

Well, Bishies are always nice. For the record, I’m not homosexual… maybe just a little bit. WHATEVER, it looks like a somewhat generic shoujo type anime with a slight twist. I’m not a huge fan of Kiyomo Sayaka but still, it should be rather decent. I may drop it at any time though, so be aware of that.

Hourou Musuko

The story depicts a young boy named Shuuichi Nitori who wants to be a girl, and his friend Yoshino Takatsuki, a girl who wants to be a boy. The series deals with issues such as transsexuality, gender identity, and the beginning of puberty. [From MaL]

Now this! I loved the manga. I just enjoy these cross dressing type of manga. This style brings a lot of personality to the characters. Hourou Musuko is definitely an anime that I’ll follow.

The story takes place on an island, where a “Fractale System” is beginning to collapse. One day, Clain finds an injured girl called Phryne under a cliff. She disappears leaving a pendant. Clain sets out for a journey with the girl-shaped avatar Nessa to look for Phryne and discovers the secret of the Fractale System. [From MaL]

Hmm, I’m not entirely sure what to think of this yet. There isn’t much information out there and I’ve never heard of it before this. It seems like an interesting concept and could either become an outstanding or abysmal anime. I’ll keep this one on the periphery.

Kimi ni Todoke 2nd Season

Sequel to the first season. Sawako Kuronuma is misunderstood due to her resemblance to the ghost girl from The Ring. But one day the nicest boy in the class befriends her. Lots of blushing and hand holding follow. [From MaL]

Well well, a second season already. I enjoy the first season enough to warrant watching the second. There is a lot of blushing and indecisiveness in this anime so be warned. It’s standard shoujo fare.

The story follows the “strongest juvenile delinquent”, Oga Tatsumi, a first year in “Ishiyama High” the school for delinquents. One day while sleeping next to a river he sees a man floating down it, he pulls him to shore and the man splits in half revealing a baby boy. This boy is the son of the demon king and he has been chosen as the one to raise it with the baby’s demon maid Hilda. The story follows his life with the child and at the delinquent school.

This seems to be the only shounen style anime this season. The genre hasn’t exactly died down but I’ve stopped watching the likes of Naruto and opted to read the manga instead. Beelzebub is a manga that I‘ve been following since the beginning and it’s decent. Not the heart-wrenching shounen masterpiece that is TTGL but still, I need a good action anime now and again.

The year is 1924, the place, Sauville, a small European country neatly tucked beside the Alps…

Kazuya Kujo has been studying abroad at the prestigious Saint Marguerite Academy, where urban legends and horror stories are all the rage. Most Kazuya ignores but the story of the Queen Berry, a mysterious ghost ship, really gets to him. Of course, his brainy friend Victorique is much more intrigued by true stories, and she uses her unrivaled logic to solve mysteries even the town’s famous detective can’t. Ironically, it is Victorique’s inquisitive nature that leads the duo to board a ship that matches the Queen Berry’s description to a tee, a ship that might just hold the key to solving a sinister mystery… (Source: Tokyopop) [From MaL]

The genre tags say mystery and shounen so I’m not sure what to think. It doesn’t exactly look like a shounen anime but nevertheless. I’ve never been a fan of mysteries but I’ll give it a try. It really depends on how intriguing the mysteries are.

Set in a slightly futuristic world where Earth has been invaded and is at war with aliens from another dimension called the Nova, the story follows the adventures of a Japanese boy named Kazuya Aoi who enrolls for training at a special school for genetically modified girls called Pandoras who battle the aliens, and their male partners, called Limiters, who use a special power called “freezing” to limit their opponent’s mobility. The protagonist makes the acquaintance of an unusual older girl named Bridgette L. Satellizer who appears to be the most powerful Pandora in her class, but has not yet chosen a male partner to be her Limiter, and in spite of the warnings of all his friends, he decides to be her Limiter. [From MaL]

What kind of a guy would I be if I didn’t include the obligatory fan service anime? I’ve read the manga and it’s cool… the actual “freezing” premise could be explored a bit more but I digress. Girls ripping off each others clothes in a frenzy of blades and boobage? I guess you can count me in. I could drop this at any too.

That’s it for the anime that I will be following this season. I’ll still be covering the anime that I’m watching this season so watch out for that too.

That would include: Bakuman, Katanagatari, Kuragehime (I have the last episode on my drive as we speak), and Toaru Majutsu no Index II.
